Freedom of expression is one of our most important rights. But journalists are still facing persecution and even imprisonment.

On Human Rights Day, Avantgarde and Reporters without Borders launched Digital Exile. It’s a social media campaign enabling people to loan their Facebook or Twitter account to persecuted journalists, like Ray Mwareya, Nazeeha Saeed, or Can Dündar. Just like that, journalists in exile were given a platform to express their opinion and post uncensored articles on social media. With a simple trick and zero media budget, we created a social brand experience that broke the power of dictatorship, brought awareness to Reporters Without Borders, enabled thousands of news articles, engaged celebrities, and inspired millions of people all over the world.
